Kampala — Makerere University has confirmed the death of Kabuye Kelvin Charles, a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT).
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Dean of Students on Wednesday, Kabuye’s body was discovered in the early hours of Monday, September 28, inside the fenced area housing an MTN mast opposite the University Library.
University security reported the discovery to Makerere Police Station, after which police officers handed the investigation to the Wandegeya Homicide Desk and Scene of Crime Officers.
The university said the cause of death had not yet been established.
“A post-mortem examination has been requested,” the university said, adding that investigations were ongoing in cooperation with the Uganda Police Force.
Makerere University management conveyed condolences to Kabuye’s family, friends and classmates.
The university also said counselling and psychosocial support services had been made available to students and other members of the university community affected by the death through the University Counselling and Guidance Centre.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding Kabuye’s death are ongoing.
