KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Regional Cooperation), Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, to serve as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The appointment was made through a letter dated June 22, 2026, in which President Museveni exercised his constitutional authority to ensure continuity in the leadership of the ministry.

“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by Article 99(1) of the Constitution, I hereby appoint you as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs in the absence of a substantive Minister,” President Museveni stated in the letter.

Hon. Kasolo, who has been serving in the Foreign Affairs docket as Minister of State for Regional Cooperation, will now oversee the ministry’s affairs pending the appointment of a substantive minister.

The appointment comes as Uganda continues to strengthen its diplomatic engagements, regional integration efforts and international partnerships across Africa and beyond.

As Minister of State for Regional Cooperation, Kasolo has played a key role in advancing Uganda’s interests within regional blocs and promoting cooperation with neighbouring countries on matters of trade, security and development.

According to the Presidential Press Unit, the appointment takes effect immediately.

The move is expected to ensure the smooth functioning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Uganda pursues its foreign policy objectives and deepens bilateral and multilateral relations with partners around the world.
