KAMPALA, Uganda — Victoria University Kampala has announced the launch of a large-scale free Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programme targeting 10,000 students, in response to the growing demand for digital and technology-driven skills.

The university says the initiative is designed to prepare young people for the future labour market, where AI literacy, data analysis, and digital innovation are expected to become essential professional competencies.

Experts predict that by 2030, artificial intelligence will significantly transform global employment patterns, with routine and repetitive jobs likely to decline while new technology-driven careers emerge. Education institutions are therefore under pressure to integrate AI and digital skills into learning programmes.

Victoria University’s training programme will begin in mid-March with AI orientation sessions introducing participants to emerging technologies and their applications in modern careers and entrepreneurship.

The practical component of the programme will focus on hands-on training, enabling students to learn how to use AI tools for productivity, problem-solving, content development, and business innovation.

University officials said the initiative reflects the institution’s forward-looking education philosophy, emphasizing that future workforce competitiveness will depend not only on academic qualifications but also on the ability to effectively work with intelligent technologies.

“We do not wait for the future — we prepare our students to lead it,” the university stated, highlighting its commitment to technological education and innovation.

The programme is open to students interested in developing practical AI skills, and registration has already attracted thousands of applicants since its announcement.

University leaders say the initiative is part of broader efforts to position Uganda’s youth to participate in the global digital economy.
