Uganda’s national boxing team, the Uganda Bombers, has secured 13 medals at the 2026 African Elite Boxing Championships, winning four gold, one silver and eight bronze medals, the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) has announced.

The federation highlighted the team’s performance in an update on its social media platforms, naming Nagawa Vanessa, Nsubuga Samuel and Mulungi Kassim among the Ugandan boxers who won gold in their respective finals.

Nagawa claimed the women’s 57kg title after defeating Lesotho’s Rapelang Maselela by a Referee Stops Contest (RSC) victory.

Nsubuga won gold in the 55kg category after beating Rwanda’s Ntabanganyimana Valentin by a unanimous 5-0 decision.

Mulungi also secured gold after defeating Angola’s Daniel Makaya in his final, adding to Uganda’s medal tally at the continental competition.

The federation reported that Uganda finished with four gold medals, one silver and eight bronze medals, although its update did not identify all the medallists or specify the categories in which every medal was won.

The results underline Uganda’s competitiveness in elite African boxing, with the team securing victories against opponents from Lesotho, Rwanda and Angola in the reported finals.

However, Uganda’s medal tally was also affected by the disqualification of Aziz Abdul, popularly known as Ringo, in the men’s 90kg final against Egypt’s Mohamed Hossen. The federation said Abdul was disqualified for delivering an illegal blow after initially reporting his silver-medal finish.

The African Elite Boxing Championships bring together boxers from across the continent to compete for titles in different weight categories.

With four gold medals and nine additional podium finishes, the Uganda Bombers recorded a substantial medal haul at the 2026 championship. The federation’s published update, however, did not provide a complete breakdown of the results across all categories.
