KAGADI — Police in Kagadi District have arrested two men in connection with the suspected murder of their 95-year-old mother, whose body was discovered in a sugarcane plantation with her head missing.
The deceased, identified as Kabagenzi Angela, was a resident of Matuntu A Village in Kagadi District.
According to the Uganda Police Force, Kabagenzi went missing from her home on the night of September 4, 2026.
Her body was discovered the following morning, September 5, about 300 metres from her home, inside a sugarcane plantation. Police said the body had been decapitated.
Police officers responded to the scene and deployed a sniffer dog as investigators began reconstructing what happened.
According to police, investigators first identified a possible route through the thick sugarcane plantation by which the killer or killers may have left the scene.
A police sniffer dog identified as T/P 240 Marshal was then introduced to the scene and picked up a scent.
The dog reportedly tracked the trail to the home of Biija Peter, one of Kabagenzi’s sons, before proceeding to the home of another son, identified as Isingoma.
Police subsequently arrested the two men to assist with investigations into their mother’s death.
During the operation, police said Isingoma led officers and members of the community to a location where the missing head had allegedly been buried.
The head was recovered from the location, according to police.
The two suspects remain in police custody as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and seek to establish what led to the killing.
Police have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the murder.
The case has shocked residents in Kagadi, particularly because of the age of the victim and the circumstances in which her body was found.
Investigators are expected to examine forensic evidence recovered from the scene and establish the sequence of events between Kabagenzi’s disappearance and the discovery of her body.
The two men are being treated as suspects and have not been convicted of any offence.
