One killed after armed group attacks police station in Kasese

One person was killed after a group of about six people armed with pangas attacked Bugoye Sub-County Police Station in Kasese District early Thursday morning, police said.

The incident occurred at about 2am on October 1, 2026, when the group reportedly attacked an officer on duty and attempted to take his firearm.

According to Uganda Police Force, the officer resisted and shot one of the attackers in the leg.

The injured suspect fled the scene but was later found dead a short distance from the police station.

Police said the identity of the deceased had not yet been established.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the attack. They are identified as Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi.

Police said a panga was recovered at the scene, while the deceased’s body was taken to a mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Investigations are continuing, including efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and trace the other suspects who fled.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information about the suspects’ identities or whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

The force also urged the public to report any suspicious activity that may be connected to the incident.
