The Uganda Police Force has arrested two suspects linked to the recent break-in at the Bank of Uganda, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
According to police, the suspects were apprehended on May 7, 2026, following intelligence-led operations conducted in Kampala.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the suspects were identified as 19-year-old Kule Boaz Michael, a resident of Wabigalo, and Kabuye Ramadhan, also known as Rhama, a resident of Nsambya Zone C in Kampala City.
“On 7 May 2026, our intelligence teams successfully apprehended two suspects linked to the Bank of Uganda break-in that occurred on 4 May 2026,” Rusoke said in a statement released through the police’s official communication channels.
He added that the suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, and two stolen laptops have since been recovered. They will be arraigned before the court in due course,” Rusoke stated.
Preliminary reports indicate that between seven and eight high-end laptops were allegedly stolen during the break-in at the central bank premises earlier this week, sparking concerns over security at one of Uganda’s most sensitive financial institutions.
Police say investigations are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen items and establish whether additional suspects were involved in the operation.
The incident has attracted public attention due to the strategic importance of the central bank, which oversees Uganda’s monetary policy, financial regulation, and currency management.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the value of the stolen equipment or whether sensitive information may have been compromised during the break-in.
