Members of Parliament from the Tooro sub-region, led by Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze, have endorsed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for Uganda’s presidency in 2031.

The legislators visited the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) headquarters in Nakasero, Kampala, where they met officials from the organisation and expressed support for Kainerugaba’s political ambitions.

Tumwebaze, who represents Kibale East County in Kamwenge District, said the MPs had joined what he described as a voluntary citizen campaign to endorse Kainerugaba.

“With colleague MPs from Tooro, we joined the citizen voluntary mass action of endorsing and expressing our confidence in Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as our future President (2031 onwards),” Tumwebaze said.

The PLU said the delegation was received by Daudi Kabanda, head of the organisation’s chairman’s office, and Michael Mawanda, its director of mobilisation.

The endorsement forms part of a nationwide mobilisation campaign by PLU ahead of the 2031 presidential election. The organisation is collecting endorsements under the slogan “Muhoozi Gwe Akimala” and says it has distributed endorsement books across 146 districts, with a target of collecting 20 million signatures.

The target represents the number of signatures PLU says it intends to collect; it is not the number of endorsements already obtained.

The Tooro MPs’ endorsement follows a similar declaration by five MPs from the Ankole sub-region in September. The legislators — Amos Kankunda, Amanya Cohen Kyampene, Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama, Boaz Atwijukire and Zadock Mutekanga — publicly backed Kainerugaba during a visit to the PLU secretariat.

PLU has also conducted endorsement activities in other parts of the country, including Sebei, where it launched its 2031 mobilisation exercise in Kapchorwa on September 26.

Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and chairman of PLU, has publicly linked his political ambitions to the legacy and political programme of his father, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. In remarks reported by New Vision, he said he expected to receive his father’s support and predicted that he would secure 90 percent of the vote in 2031.

The latest endorsement adds another group of serving legislators to PLU’s mobilisation campaign as the organisation builds structures around Kainerugaba’s proposed 2031 presidential bid.
