Uganda’s media fraternity is mourning the death of Sanyuka TV producer Badru following a road crash that also left entertainment journalist and presenter Brian Macona critically injured.
The crash reportedly occurred early Friday morning near Namulanda, Wakiso District, as the media team returned from a boxing match between TikToker Chicken Chicken and comedian Shawa.
Badru and journalist Isaac reportedly died in the accident, while Macona was rushed to hospital, where he is said to be receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Reports circulating online indicate that he is in critical condition.
Sanyuka TV, a subsidiary of Next Media Services, is known for its entertainment and lifestyle programming, including shows covering Uganda’s music and entertainment industry.
News of Badru’s death triggered an outpouring of condolences from journalists, media personalities and members of the public.
Investigative journalist Tabz expressed sympathy to Next Media management and staff following the loss.
“My heart goes out to you [Next Media CEO Kin Kariisa] and all staff at Next Media for the loss of your staff including my good friend Badru who died in an accident this morning. My prayers are with you Makona for a speedy recovery. Makona is now admitted in ICU. Keep him in prayer,” Tabz wrote.
Entertainment platforms also paid tribute to the fallen producer, describing the crash as a devastating loss to the media industry.
The circumstances surrounding the accident have not yet been officially released by police, and details of the crash remain subject to further confirmation.
The incident adds to ongoing concerns about road safety in Uganda, particularly on busy highways where fatal crashes continue to claim lives.
Colleagues and friends have continued sharing messages of condolence, while praying for the recovery of Brian Macona.
