MUKONO — Police in Nagalama Division have launched investigations into a suspected cattle theft case following the recovery of three cows and the arrest of a suspect along the Kampala–Kayunga Highway.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the breakthrough came in the early hours of June 10, 2026, when a motorcycle patrol team intercepted a white Toyota LiteAce, registration number UAX 417Y, at about 5:00 a.m.
Police said the vehicle, which was fully covered with an orange tarpaulin, aroused suspicion and was signaled to stop for inspection. However, the occupants allegedly ignored the officers’ orders and sped off, prompting a pursuit.
The vehicle was later abandoned at Kalagi Trading Centre, where three occupants fled on foot.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered three cows concealed inside, raising suspicions that the animals had been stolen.
One suspect, identified as Byansi Livingston, also known as Lubega Yusuf, was arrested and is currently being held in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the other suspects who managed to escape during the operation.
The recovered cattle and the vehicle have been taken to Nagalama Police Division as investigators work to establish ownership and determine the circumstances under which the animals were transported.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public who may have recently lost cattle or possess information that could assist investigations to report to Nagalama Police Division.
Investigations into the suspected cattle theft are ongoing.
