Police have recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from a dilapidated building that was being demolished in Kijabijo Cell, Kimwanyi Ward, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

The firearm was recovered on Saturday, August 22, 2026, after police received information about an abandoned gun at the premises.

Police officers from Kasangati responded to the report and searched the old building, where they recovered the AK-47 rifle together with unspecified ammunition.

According to police, the building had previously been occupied by individuals believed to be notorious criminals. One of the former occupants was arrested in connection with the 2024 shooting of a mobile money attendant in Ntinda, Kampala.

Police are seeking to establish who owned the firearm, how it came to be kept at the premises and whether it was connected to any criminal activity.

Investigators are also working to identify and apprehend any other individuals who may be connected to the firearm.

The recovery comes amid continuing police investigations into firearms believed to have been used or abandoned by criminal networks in the Kampala metropolitan area.
