Museveni: How I transformed Kisozi

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer for the 2026 elections, has urged Members of Parliament and local leaders to prioritise development projects effectively, noting that delays in service delivery often stem from poor planning.

“Delays come because we prioritise things that your MPs don’t understand,” he said during a campaign rally at Nsambwe Primary School in Gomba District.

The President cited the transformation of Kisozi and the surrounding areas as a model of what focused development can achieve. “When I came to Kisozi after buying land, it was a desert—no schools, roads, or electricity. Today we have Mpigi–Kibibi–Gombe–Kanoni–Sembabule–Masaka,” he said, urging residents to emphasise practical results over political expectations. “Our principle is one kamu kamu gwemuganda [one by one makes a bundle]. Let’s prioritise.”

On infrastructure, Museveni highlighted ongoing and planned projects. “The Kifampa–Bugomola–Kyamuribwa–Villa Maria road will be worked on, while the Kanoni–Maanyi–Mityana–Ssekanyonyi–Busunju road has been delayed but will also be developed. Kyahi Sub-County will also get electricity,” he said.

He further stressed wealth creation, drawing on his personal experience. “In 1967, my father was a cattle keeper. I went to Rwakitura—no roads, no electricity. I bought land, and later developments came. I then explored Kisozi, despite warnings that it was undeveloped,” Museveni recalled.

Regarding the Parish Development Model (PDM), the President emphasised citizen participation in poverty reduction. “The money we send through Operation Wealth Creation and PDM is to help you get out of poverty. Adults over 18 should join parish SACCOs, elect committees, and actively demand results,” he said.

Museveni also shared outcomes from a meeting with over 500 youth at his Kisozi farm, encouraging them to engage in development efforts and reminding them that corruption has long existed.

He concluded by underscoring Uganda’s peace and stability. “Uganda has been at peace for 40 years, and we cannot dare disrupt it. Whoever tries will regret it,” he warned, appealing for continued vigilance and support for orderly development.

Kisozi farm

President Museveni’s Kisozi farm is a large, privately-owned cattle ranch located in the Gomba District, Uganda, which also serves as his country home and a demonstration centre for his wealth creation model.

The Kisozi Ranch spans approximately 3 square miles (1,900 acres) and primarily focuses on dairy farming with long-horned cows. The President frequently hosts government officials, farmers, and other guests at the farm to promote his “four-acre model” of agriculture and rural development, emphasising high-yield milk production over traditional cattle-keeping methods.

Preserving Indigenous Heritage

President Museveni has used the Kisozi ranch as a “frontline” to promote the value of indigenous Ankole cattle over foreign breeds.

He has successfully debunked the myth that local cattle are unproductive, noting that some of his Kisozi cattle can produce as much as 28 to 30 litres of milk per day.

In 2022, one of his prized cows reportedly sold for Shs491 million, showcasing the high market value he has helped create for the breed.

The “Kisozi Model” of Wealth Creation

The farm serves as a demonstration centre for the 4-acre model, which encourages smallholder farmers to diversify their land with high-value activities: One acre for coffee, one acre for fruits, one acre for dairy cattle pasture and one acre for food crops, plus backyard activities like poultry or piggery.

Community Transformation

Beyond his personal cattle, his success is visible in the transformation of the nine surrounding villages in Gomba and Sembabule. Household Impact: Over 2,035 households have benefited from the project since 2011.

Income Growth: Local farmers have transitioned from grass-thatched huts to permanent houses with solar power, with some individual coffee and dairy farmers now earning hundreds of millions of shillings annually.

Recent Activities

Hosting Leaders: In May 2024, Museveni hosted the leaders of the three arms of government at the farm to reaffirm his wealth creation strategy and showcase successful local farmers who adopted his advice.

Community Programs: The President has initiated programs through his staff to help his neighbours get out of poverty by distributing seedlings and cows and supporting local SACCOs (Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations).

Infrastructure: The area around Kisozi has seen infrastructure improvements, with planned road projects and the extension of electricity to nearby sub-counties cited as evidence of focused planning.

The farm remains a key location for presidential activities, private retreats, and a practical example of his agricultural development philosophy.
