Police in Wakiso District have arrested a 38-year-old woman accused of severely beating and burning her two biological daughters, aged seven and eight.

The suspect, identified as Nasanga Sophia, a resident of Kireka Biira, Nakabugo Parish, Wakiso Sub-county, is being investigated over allegations that she tortured the children using a hot knife heated in a charcoal stove.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, police received information about the alleged abuse on October 28, 2026, at around 1pm.

Police said the woman allegedly subjected the two children to severe beatings before burning them with the heated knife.

The suspect was subsequently arrested, while the two children were rescued.

During interrogation, Nasanga reportedly told investigators that she had punished the children because they were disrespectful and had allegedly stolen Shs5,000 from her.

Police said the suspect was expected to appear in court on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as investigations into the incident continued.

Kawala condemned the alleged abuse, emphasising that children must be protected from violence regardless of their relationship with the perpetrators.

“We strongly condemn all acts of child torture and abuse, regardless of who is responsible—even if the perpetrators are the children’s biological parents,” Kawala said.

She urged members of the public to desist from all forms of child abuse and report suspected cases to relevant authorities.

The incident adds to concerns over violence against children within households, where parents and guardians are expected to provide protection and care.
