The Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced Kavuuma Ibrahim to three and a half years in prison for his role in a property fraud scheme that cost a victim about Shs740 million.

The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House said Kavuuma and his alleged accomplices obtained US$205,556 from the victim by using falsified property documents to make him believe that Kavuuma was the legitimate owner of the land.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered Kavuuma to refund Shs70 million to the victim.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of Shs8,004,700, US$2,000 and a motor vehicle recovered from Kavuuma during his arrest. The assets are to be used towards compensating the victim, according to the Anti-Corruption Unit.

The case arose from an incident on July 15, 2025, when Kavuuma and other suspects, who remain at large, allegedly used falsified documents, including a certificate of title, sale agreements and transfer forms, to facilitate the fraud.

The documents were reportedly used to misrepresent ownership of the property and persuade the victim to pay for it.

Kavuuma was subsequently arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit and charged with forgery, uttering false documents, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering.

The Anti-Corruption Unit announced the conviction in a statement on its social media account but did not identify the property involved or provide details of the remaining suspects.

The court’s orders for restitution and forfeiture are intended to help recover the victim’s losses from the fraud.
