The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has arrested a primary school teacher in Sironko District over allegations that he has been impersonating another person for more than three decades using an Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) issued in the other person’s name.

The suspect, identified as Namasake Godfrey, teaches at Budadiri Girls Primary School. He is expected to appear before the Sironko Court today, according to the Inspectorate of Government.

In a statement, the IGG said investigations by its Mbale Regional Office established that Namasake had allegedly been presenting himself as Lutukayi Christopher since September 1, 1995.

The Inspectorate alleges that he has been using a UCE certificate issued by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) in Lutukayi’s name to represent himself as that person.

The circumstances under which the certificate was obtained and the alleged impersonation occurred were not detailed in the statement.

The case is expected to proceed before the Sironko Court as the allegations are brought through the judicial process.
