The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has arrested an Oyam District Local Government staff member over allegations of soliciting Shs17.6 million from six people in exchange for securing their appointment as education assistants.

Ejang Florence, an office typist at Oyam District Local Government, was arrested on allegations of soliciting and receiving gratification in connection with public service recruitment, according to the Inspectorate.

The IG said Ejang allegedly demanded the money from six individuals between April and June 2025 as an inducement to secure their appointment as Education Assistant II officers in the district.

She is also accused of receiving Shs508,000 through her mobile phone as payment to secure a job for one of the applicants.

Ejang is expected to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court on October 30, 2026, to answer to the charges.

The case was investigated by the IG’s Lira Regional Office, headed by Alfred Atulinde, a Principal Inspectorate Officer.

The Inspectorate said the arrest forms part of its efforts to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public service.

The allegations have not been proved in court, and Ejang is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
