Two workers were seriously injured after a crane lift collapsed at a construction site in Ggaba, Kampala, police said.
The incident occurred at about 11:30am on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at a construction site in Mission Zone, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, where workers were constructing a six-storey apartment building.
According to police, the workers were mixing concrete and loading it onto the crane lift when the equipment broke from the sixth floor and collapsed.
Two workers who were on the fifth floor reportedly fell with the crane lift. Part of the building, including a balcony, was also damaged.
The injured workers were identified as Baluku James and Muhima Silver, both adult males.
They were initially taken to Wentz Hospital before being referred to Mengo Hospital for further treatment.
Police from Kabalagala Police Division visited the scene and documented the incident. The damaged crane lift was recovered and exhibited, while debris samples were collected for laboratory analysis.
Investigators have also recorded statements from witnesses, including workers at the construction site.
The National Building Review Board has been notified about the incident, while police are following up on the victims’ condition and facilitating their medical examinations.
The case was registered at Kabalagala Police Station as a rash and negligent act causing injuries.
No arrests have been made.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse and determine responsibility.
