KAMPALA — The Buganda Kingdom has unveiled a Shs409.315 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, setting out an ambitious spending plan focused on strengthening governance, preserving cultural heritage, and accelerating socio-economic development across the kingdom.
The budget was presented during a sitting of the Buganda Lukiiko at Bulange, Mengo, where Kingdom leaders outlined their financial priorities for the coming year.
According to Kingdom officials, the budget allocates substantial resources to the administration of the Kingdom, education, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, cultural preservation, and community development programmes aimed at improving livelihoods throughout Buganda.
The spending plan also prioritises strengthening Kingdom institutions and enhancing service delivery through county and sub-county administrative structures, while increasing support for initiatives targeting youth and women empowerment.
Officials said the budget reflects the Kingdom’s continued commitment to promoting sustainable development alongside the preservation of Buganda’s cultural identity. They added that investments will also be directed towards modernising administrative systems, improving revenue mobilisation, and expanding partnerships with government agencies, the private sector and development partners.
A portion of the allocation will fund the maintenance and development of cultural and historical sites, which Kingdom leaders say remain central to preserving Buganda’s heritage while promoting tourism and cultural education.
The financial framework also supports ongoing programmes in agriculture, which the Kingdom has identified as a key driver of household income and food security, as well as initiatives intended to improve access to education and healthcare services across its counties.
Observers say the Shs409.315 billion budget reflects Buganda Kingdom’s growing emphasis on institutional capacity, economic empowerment and community-based development, reinforcing its role as one of Uganda’s most influential traditional institutions in promoting social and economic transformation.
Implementation of the budget will begin during the 2026/2027 financial year through the Kingdom’s various ministries, departments and county administrations, with officials expressing confidence that the planned programmes will contribute to improved service delivery and sustainable development across Buganda.
