Blackman Dragon turns criticism into debut EP, Bestii

Ssekiranda Andrew, popularly known as Blackman Dragon, has released his debut extended play (EP), Bestii, as he seeks to establish himself in Uganda’s music industry.

The young musician, who began his music career in 2026, blends Afrobeat and dancehall on the project as he works to develop his sound and introduce himself to listeners.

Born on June 15, 2008, Blackman Dragon grew up in Nsaggu and attended Kisozi High School.

He says criticism from his peers about the organisation and quality of his earlier music partly motivated him to work on the EP. He also faced difficulties getting his previous songs recorded in a studio.

Rather than abandon his ambitions, he decided to put together a project that could give his music a more organised presentation and mark the beginning of his journey as a recording artist.

However, limited finances remain a major obstacle. Blackman Dragon says he lacks professional management and has largely pursued his music career without the support of a dedicated team.

“I have faced the challenge of funds in my musical journey, but if I get management, I can do well and reach the top,” he says.

For emerging musicians, management can help coordinate recording, promotion and performances, although success also depends on developing a distinctive sound and building an audience.

With Bestii, Blackman Dragon has taken his first step towards establishing a presence in the industry. He now hopes to secure the support and resources needed to produce more music and reach a wider audience.
