Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has denied authorising a celebration reportedly being organised in her honour, after Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba warned that anyone involved in the gathering would be arrested.
Among issued the denial on Tuesday, September 8, after reports circulated that a group of Members of Parliament was planning a “pre-Speaker party” for her on September 16.
“I have learned that a party is purportedly being organised on my behalf. I wish to explicitly state that I have not authorised any such gathering in my name, and no individual associated with me is orchestrating such an event. Kindly dismiss any misinformation in this regard,” Among said in a post on X.
She later directly responded to Gen Muhoozi, saying there were no arrangements by her or people associated with her to hold a party.
“My brother Gen, there are no arrangements by myself or individuals associated with me to host any party. God bless!” she wrote.
Gen Muhoozi had earlier warned against the reported gathering, saying security agencies would arrest those involved.
“There will be ABSOLUTELY no party for AAA. We shall arrest anybody involved in that nonsense!” he wrote, referring to Among by her initials. He added: “Forgiving someone does not mean they do not have unresolved cases.”
The reported party has been linked in media reports to a group of MPs, with State Minister Justine Nameere named as one of those associated with the planned event. However, Among has denied any involvement in organising it.
Gen Muhoozi also renewed his warnings against corruption, writing in a separate post that “Corrupt Ministers are not immune to the Basement.” He did not identify any minister in the post or specify particular cases.
The remarks come against the backdrop of investigations into allegations of corruption, illicit enrichment and money laundering involving Among earlier this year. Investigators searched properties linked to the former Speaker in May and later extended their operations to Parliament, where her office and other areas were searched.
The Inspector General of Government subsequently submitted a report on the investigation into Among’s declared income and assets to President Yoweri Museveni, according to reports at the time.
Among, who served as Speaker from 2022 until May 2026, remains the Woman Member of Parliament for Bukedea District.
The reported celebration has since been disowned by Among, while Gen Muhoozi’s warning has placed organisers of any such gathering on notice.
