At least one person has been killed and several others injured in clashes among suspected rebel groups in Morobo County, South Sudan, prompting warnings against crossing the border into the conflict-affected area.

Koboko Deputy Resident District Commissioner Hajji Marijani Wailaire said the fighting broke out at around 9am, leaving three people with gunshot wounds.

Some of the injured reportedly crossed into Uganda, where the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) evacuated them to Koboko Hospital for treatment.

Wailaire said authorities were cautioning residents against crossing into the affected area as the security situation remained fragile.

The clashes have raised concerns about the potential spillover of violence from Morobo County into neighbouring Uganda, particularly in border communities in the West Nile sub-region.

Further details about the groups involved, the cause of the fighting and the identities of those killed or injured were not immediately available.
