Police impound 178 taxis over dangerous mechanical conditions

KAMPALA, August 24, 2026 — Police have impounded 178 public service vehicles (PSVs) in Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) during a crackdown on vehicles operating in dangerous mechanical conditions. The operation, conducted on Monday, targeted PSVs considered mechanically unsafe and unfit to transport passengers. According to the Uganda Police Force, 53 vehicles were impounded in KMP East, 62 in KMP South and 63 in KMP North, bringing the total to 178. BEIJING, Aug 23 (Reuters) — A Chinese humanoid robot has run 100 metres in 9.39 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, beating the men's world record set by Jamaican sprinting legend Usain Bolt.
