The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has urged its suppliers to promote wildlife conservation and tourism while upholding integrity, quality and professionalism in public procurement.
UWA Executive Director Dr James Musinguzi made the call at the UWA Suppliers Forum 2026 held at Protea Hotel Kampala Skyz under the theme, “Sustainable Procurement for Wildlife Conservation.”
The forum brought together UWA suppliers and other stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, address challenges in procurement and improve service delivery.
Musinguzi urged suppliers to act as ambassadors for Uganda’s wildlife and protected areas and encouraged them to explore investment opportunities in national parks.
“We expect integrity, quality, honesty, fair competition and professionalism,” Musinguzi said. “Through openness and dialogue, we can address inefficiencies and strengthen partnerships for better service delivery.”
He also encouraged suppliers to invest in Uganda’s protected areas and explore available concessions.
“Uganda belongs to all of us. We have heard your concerns and are committed to addressing them. I invite you to invest in our parks and explore available concessions,” Musinguzi said.
Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) Executive Director Canon Benson Turamye, who was the keynote speaker, said public procurement should contribute to national development.
“Public procurement must drive national development,” Turamye told the suppliers.
He called for greater emphasis on quality, local content and collaboration to support Uganda’s development objectives, including Vision 2040.
Turamye said government agencies and suppliers should ensure that specifications, contractors, prices and delivered goods or services meet the required standards.
“Let us ensure that government officials have the right specifications, they source for the right contractor or supplier, you give the right price, deliver the right products as per specifications,” he said.
“The best value is not the lowest price.”
The forum also focused on strengthening understanding of the opportunities and responsibilities involved in supplying goods and services to government.
Ag. Commissioner for Tourism and Business Development Dorcus Rwabwogo urged UWA suppliers to visit national parks to better understand their contribution to conservation.
She also encouraged suppliers to support UWA by paying park entry fees when visiting the protected areas.
The forum is part of UWA’s efforts to strengthen engagement with suppliers and promote procurement practices that contribute to wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism.
