Ugandan security agencies have arrested a suspected transnational criminal, Mugisha Keith King, along with two Nigerian nationals, in an intelligence-led operation in Kampala targeting an international drug trafficking and document fraud network.
The operation, coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs Uganda in collaboration with other security agencies, followed an alert from Interpol and tip-offs from members of the public regarding suspicious activities.
According to Ministry spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi, investigators are now probing the suspects’ possible links to a range of serious offences.
“This was an intelligence-led operation targeting a sophisticated international criminal network. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of their activities, including drug trafficking and document fraud,” Mundeyi said.
Authorities reported that the suspects were apprehended in Kampala, although Mugisha is a resident of Gasiza Parish in Kisoro District.
During the operation, security teams recovered a cache of items believed to be connected to criminal activity, including a firearm, ammunition, forged passports, and military-grade equipment.
In a statement, the Ministry confirmed the significance of the arrests. “Uganda’s security agencies have dismantled an international drug trafficking and document fraud network in Kampala. Key suspect Mugisha Keith King and his associates have been arrested, and exhibits including firearms and forged documents recovered,” the Ministry said.
The arrests highlight growing concerns over transnational organised crime networks operating within the region. Authorities say investigations are ongoing, with the possibility of more arrests as they work to uncover the wider network.
Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing information with security agencies to support efforts aimed at combating organised crime.
