A senior clinical officer at Kikoni Health Centre IV in Rwampara District has been charged with obtaining money by false pretence after allegedly collecting Shs23 million from several people by promising to secure them jobs in the district local government.

Kamugisha Asaph appeared before the Ndeija Magistrate’s Court on two counts of obtaining money by false pretence and was remanded until November 3, 2026.

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Kamugisha allegedly obtained the money on February 23, 2026, at Kanoni Town in Rwampara District by falsely claiming he could help the victims secure employment with the Rwampara District Local Government.

The charges follow investigations by the Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Kamugisha’s arrest followed complaints from members of the public during the national “Expose the Corrupt” campaign held in Rwampara District, spearheaded by the Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development (Children Affairs), Balaam Barugahara, according to the Anti-Corruption Unit.

The complaints prompted investigations that culminated in his arraignment before court.

The case highlights concerns over individuals allegedly exploiting jobseekers by demanding money in exchange for employment opportunities in public institutions.

Kamugisha remains on remand as the case proceeds through court. The allegations have yet to be proved, and he is presumed innocent unless convicted by a competent court.
