KAMPALA — Ugandan music star Bebe Cool has publicly accused UK-based social media personality Jolly Mutesi of allegedly deceiving him and several others through promises linked to football opportunities for young players, claims that Mutesi has strongly denied.
The dispute erupted on social media after Bebe Cool shared a series of posts on X alleging that Mutesi had “coned” him last year while claiming to have connections to Rwanda and English Premier League club Arsenal.
“This woman @mutesi_jolly stays in the UK and she always watches Arsenal games. She coned me last year in the name of Rwanda, Arsenal football club and now she’s on another big mission,” Bebe Cool wrote.
The singer, whose son Allan Hendrick Ssali has been pursuing a football career abroad, claimed that discussions with Mutesi centered on opportunities related to youth football development and professional advancement.
In a follow-up post, Bebe Cool shared what he said was Mutesi’s UK phone number and alleged that she had used intermediaries in Uganda to receive money from victims.
“I know more people you did this to,” he wrote, adding that he intended to release screenshots and additional evidence to support his claims.
The allegations quickly generated widespread debate online, with some social media users demanding proof while others urged caution until all facts are established.
Mutesi, however, rejected the accusations, describing them as reckless and unfounded.
In her response, she maintained that she had not defrauded anyone and pointed to previous instances where unknown individuals had allegedly used her name and photographs in online scams, including schemes involving fake travel and visa opportunities.
She accused Bebe Cool of damaging her reputation and called for responsible handling of any evidence before conclusions are drawn.
As of Tuesday evening, no independent evidence had been publicly released to substantiate the allegations, although Bebe Cool insisted that more information and screenshots would be made public.
The controversy has attracted attention beyond Uganda, partly because Bebe Cool tagged several high-profile figures and institutions in his posts, including President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and Arsenal Football Club.
The dispute remains unresolved, with supporters of both parties taking opposing sides online as they await further evidence or clarification.
Neither Arsenal Football Club nor Rwandan authorities had publicly commented on the matter by press time.
The allegations remain claims made on social media and have not been independently verified.
