Kampala Metropolitan South Police have arrested more than 500 suspects in a coordinated security operation conducted across multiple policing areas targeting crime hotspots within the region.

According to a statement issued by the Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police South, SP Racheal Kawala, the joint operation was carried out in the Nateete policing area, as well as surrounding areas of Nsangi, Katwe, and Kajjansi. The exercise involved coordinated deployments from Nateete, Katwe, and Kajjansi policing divisions.

Police said the operation was intelligence-led and aimed at curbing a rise in criminal activity, including robbery, motorcycle theft, mobile phone theft, burglary, and other related offences that had been reported in the area.

During the exercise, officers arrested over 500 suspects and recovered several exhibits, including suspected opium, pangas, and suspected miraa, among other items believed to be linked to criminal activity.

Authorities further noted that the suspects have been charged with possession of narcotic drugs, public nuisance, and being in possession of offensive weapons in public without lawful authority.

SP Racheal Kawala confirmed that all suspects are currently in police custody, where they are undergoing screening before being presented for subsequent court proceedings.

Police have maintained that similar operations will continue as part of efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety within the Kampala Metropolitan South region.
