Uganda’s Martin Naibei Musau won the 2026 Lisbon Marathon in Portugal, clocking a personal-best time of 2:08:07 to finish ahead of two Kenyan athletes.

Musau crossed the finish line 26 seconds ahead of Kenya’s Gilbert Kipkurui Korir, who made his marathon debut in 2:08:33. Another Kenyan, Stephen Chebon Kipkech, finished third in 2:08:35, also recording a personal best.

The results, shared by Ugandan Athletics Track and Field, put Musau at the top of the men’s standings in the October 2026 race.

Musau’s winning time improved his previous personal best of 2:08:42, set at the Hamburg Marathon in Germany in April 2024.

The victory adds to Uganda’s presence in international distance running, a discipline in which the country has produced athletes competing at the highest levels of road and track events.

Musau’s performance also saw him beat both Kenyan runners in a closely contested finish, with the three leading athletes separated by just 28 seconds.

The Lisbon Marathon covers 42.195 kilometres and attracts elite and recreational runners from different countries.

In the men’s race, Musau took gold, Korir silver and Kipkech bronze, according to the published results.

The victory marks a personal milestone for Musau, whose 2:08:07 finish established a new career-best time over the marathon distance.
