ABIM — A Sunday service at All Saints Church of Uganda in Abim District descended into chaos when a local leader and the resident reverend engaged in a physical altercation near the altar, stunning congregants and drawing widespread attention online.
The confrontation broke out after the local chairperson requested permission to address the congregation regarding a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) security communication. When the reverend refused to yield the platform, a heated argument quickly escalated.
Video footage circulating online shows the two men, dressed in traditional attire, trading blows near the front of the church as startled churchgoers rushed forward to intervene, pulling the men apart to restore order.
Online observers expressed shock at the physical altercation breaking out inside a house of worship. The incident has unfolded against a backdrop of local sensitivities in the area, following earlier community tensions surrounding security incidents and a fatal road crash involving a military vehicle.
While church elders worked to calm the congregation following the disruption, the viral footage has sparked intense debate online regarding protocol, authority, and decorum during worship services.
