TORORO — Authorities have temporarily closed Katerima Secondary School in Tororo District following a week-long student strike that disrupted normal learning activities.
The strike reportedly began after students raised complaints over issues affecting them at the school, although the specific grievances remain unclear.
The continued unrest prompted intervention from school administrators and district authorities, who decided to suspend operations to allow investigations into the causes of the strike and find a lasting solution.
Officials are expected to engage the school administration, parents, students, and other stakeholders as they seek to address the concerns raised before reopening the institution.
The closure comes amid growing concern over increasing cases of student unrest in schools across Uganda, with education authorities urging schools to prioritise dialogue, counselling, and early intervention when disputes arise.
Authorities have not yet announced how long the closure will last or the conditions that must be met before students are allowed to return.
Education officials have previously attributed school strikes to a range of factors, including communication gaps between students and administrators, disciplinary concerns, welfare issues, and pressure related to academic demands.
Further updates are expected once investigations into the Katerima Secondary School strike are completed.
