KAMPALA, Uganda — Kampala Queens FC won their maiden FUFA Women’s Cup title on Saturday after defeating rivals Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC 2-0 in an entertaining final at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
The victory marked a historic milestone for Kampala Queens, adding the domestic cup crown to the two FUFA Women Super League titles already won by the club in recent seasons.
Forward Joanita Ainembabazi was the star of the afternoon, opening the scoring with a spectacular bicycle kick that left fans at Kadiba on their feet. The striker’s goal set Kampala Queens on course for victory and capped an impressive tournament campaign in which she finished as the competition’s top scorer with five goals. Ainembabazi was also named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Despite falling behind, Kawempe Muslim, who entered the final with a strong pedigree in Uganda women’s football, responded with sustained pressure in the second half. The league champions created several chances as they searched for an equalizer, but Kampala Queens remained disciplined at the back.
Coach Shafik Mutebi’s side absorbed the pressure before sealing victory deep into stoppage time. Kamiyat Naigaga raced clear to score in the 90+1st minute, putting the result beyond doubt and sparking celebrations among the Kampala Queens faithful. Naigaga has developed a reputation for scoring crucial late goals for the club in recent seasons.
The final brought together two of Uganda’s most successful women’s football clubs and was widely anticipated as one of the biggest fixtures in the competition’s history. Kampala Queens and Kawempe Muslim had emerged as the dominant forces in the 2026 tournament after progressing through a competitive knockout campaign.
For Kampala Queens, the triumph represents another significant achievement in the club’s rapid rise within Ugandan women’s football. The club has consistently challenged for major honors and has played a key role in raising standards in the women’s game.
The victory is also expected to further boost the profile of women’s football in Uganda, which has enjoyed growing support from fans, sponsors and football administrators in recent years.
While Kawempe Muslim fell short in the final, their strong run to the showpiece underlined their continued status as one of the country’s premier women’s football institutions.
As the celebrations continue for Kampala Queens, attention will now turn to continental ambitions and the next domestic campaign, with the newly crowned cup champions aiming to build on a season that has further cemented their place among Uganda’s elite clubs.
