The Olympics hosts Japan came from behind to secure a draw against a tacit Canadian team in the first of the football games of this year’s tournament, thanks to a late equaliser from new Arsenal forward Mana Iwabuchi.
In an interesting Day one of Women Football at the Olympics, Netherlands scored a record 10 goals as they beat Zambia 10-3 in a match which goes down in history with the highest tally of goals in the particular game. Zambia who are first time qualifiers had conceded 6-1 by end of first half and two late goals from Barbra Banda could not save Zambia but helped Barbra clinch a hatrick.
In the other match of the group F, Brazil thrashed China 5-0.
In Group G, Sweden stunned the US with a 3-0 thrashing with a pair of goals from Swedish forward Stina Blackstenius and Lina Hurtig sealing the win with the third goal while Australia edged New Zealand 2-1.

The group stage of the 2020 Olympic women’s footbal tournament will see eight teams survive and advance to the quarterfinals.
The 12 nations were split into three groups of four teams each, labeled Groups E-G to avoid confusion with the men’s tournament Groups A-D. The top two finishers automatically qualify for the quarters and the two best third-place teams will join them.
