The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje has marked Eid Al Adha at Gaddafi Mosque at Old Kampala where he pleaded to Ugandans to respect guidelines put by Ministry of Health to control the spread of Covid-19.
He asked the government not to stop people from distributing food but rather guide on the right way to do it.
Recently, government banned politicians and other leaders from distributing food arguing that the exercise exposes people to Covid-19.
“We would like to advise the government to distribute food items like in the first wave rather than giving out the UGX100,000,” Mubajje said.
He said some people may not disclose to their family members that they have received the money.
“I thank the media for the good work being done and for giving air time to the Sheikhs to preach. I wish you all a happy Eid celebration.”
Mubajje urged Ugandans to observe SOPs and other measures intended to contain the spread of Covid-19.
“Let us continue to follow the SOPs in place, the situation will go back to normal soon. Now we know how COVID19 infects people and how we can keep safe. Let’s not play the blame game.”
He extended condolences to the families that have lost their people and loved ones to COVID19 and other diseases.
“We appreciate the government efforts towards curbing the spread of COVID19.”
He thanked the President for the guidance and the Ministry of Health for putting in place an enabling environment for COVID19.
“For all those who have a chance to get vaccinated, please do. Ignore all the misconceptions about the vaccine.”
