
Tanzania Bishop Alfred Maluma of the Catholic Diocese of Njombe has passed away.
His death was first announced by The Vatican on Tuesday.
“I am saddened by the news of the death of the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Njombe Rev. Father Bishop Alfred Maluma,” President Samia Suluhu said in a condolence message.
She said the bishop was a good man, a lover of development and willing to cooperate with the Government at all times.
“I offer my condolences to all Catholics, Wananjombe and all those affected by this tragedy.”
Biography
The late Bishop Alfred Leonhard Maluma of Njombe Catholic Diocese was born on December 12, 1955 in Lukani.
After his studies and clerical formation, on November 17, 1985, he was ordained a priest for the Catholic Diocese of Njombe.
On June 8, 2002, St. John Paul II appointed him Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Njombe and was finally ordained on September 1, 2002 by Cardinal Polycarp Pengo, a retired Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam.
And on April 6, 2021, in celebration of the Oct. of the Lord’s Evening Meal, he passed away, resting in a peaceful sleep, with the hope of the Resurrection and the hope of eternal life.
My beloved father bishop, my heart is wounded at the newsvof your death. Thank you for your loving service to the people of Tanzania, for you served not only Njombe but everywere.
