President Museveni has downplayed European Parliament proposed sanctions against Ugandan officials, saying no one is “dying to travel to Europe”.
“I read in the newspapers about the European Union (EU) Parliament sanctioning some Ugandans from traveling,” Museveni said Saturday while addressing the nation on security.
The EU parliament this week suggested sanctions against individuals and organisations violating human rights in Uganda.
“For anybody to think that Africans are dying to go to Europe is something that shows lack of seriousness,” President Museveni said in response.
“Well, I need a lot of persuasion to leave Uganda. I normally do it for friendship.”
The Government of Uganda is yet to receive the official resolution from the European Union; proposing sanctions against Kampala.
Speaking to NBS, Uganda’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs Okello Oryem, stressed that until government receives the formal communique, Uganda has no official stand on the same.
