MTV Base has postponed the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards.
The event was scheduled to take place on February 20, 2021 in Kampala, for the first time ever.
“MTV Base is postponing the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards,” management tweeted without giving a clear explanation.
It added: “We will keep fans updated as we have more news.”
The awards have been plagued by controversy from foreigners who asked artists to boycott them over political repression in the country.
One such person is Robert Amsterdam, Bobi Wine’s Canadian lawyer, who asked all his friends in South Sudan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Tanzania Zambia, Ghana, South Africa and Kenya to speak to MTV about the necessity of a boycott of any show in Uganda that lends legitimacy to President Museveni at this time.
Uganda Tourism Board and Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities entered a partnership with MTV to promote tourism.
