Supporters of Ruhinda county Member of Parliament, Capt. Donzio Kahonda, on Friday stormed State House Entebbe and camped at its gate demanding to see President Yoweri Museveni.
Kahonda was convicted and imprisoned for 9 months over forgery of academic documents that he used to join the army.
He defeated Justice Minister Kahinda Otafiire in 2016 parliamentary elections.
According to his supporters, President Museveni must explain why their MP continues to languish in prison after which they would demand for his release.
They accuse Otafiire of continuing to harass their MP even when the elections are long done.
At State House, the dozens of angry supporters were barred from accessing the premises of the country’s top office by Museveni’s Special Forces Command [SFC] guards.
The president later allowed them to enter and meet him so he can solve their grievances.
The storming of State House comes after Jinja High Court on Thursday declined to give Kahonda bail.
Judge Eva Luswata could not execute the bail because state prosecutors are currently on strike.
Kahonda was on June 8, 2017 sentenced to 9 months imprisonment at Kirinya Prison by Jinja Chief Magistrate John Francis Kaggwa.
