Gunmen shoot dead trader in Kyengera

A 47-year-old trader, identified as Edirisa Ssekandi, has been shot dead by unidentified assailants in Manja Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District, as he returned home from work on Saturday night.

The incident occurred on October 10, 2026, when Ssekandi was travelling home with his wife and son after leaving their workplace in Kiteemu Trading Centre.

According to preliminary police information reported by Ugandan media, the family was attacked by armed men as they arrived at their home gate. Ssekandi was shot and died at the scene.

Eyewitness accounts, including that of his son, indicate that the attackers fled without taking any of the family’s belongings. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala confirmed that investigations had been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify the suspects.

Police have appealed to anyone with credible information that could help investigators to report to the nearest police station.

The killing has raised fresh concerns among residents about security in Kyengera, where local residents and leaders have called for the perpetrators to be identified and brought to justice.

The suspects remain at large as investigations continue.
