Five arrested after social media reports of Mukono robberies

MUKONO — Police in Mukono have arrested five suspects following social media reports alleging that suspected scrap dealers were terrorising residents in Kilooza, Mukono Central Division, through assault and simple robbery.

The arrests followed the circulation of videos and audio recordings on social media platforms, prompting police to launch an intelligence-led operation to identify the individuals allegedly involved.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, officers reviewed CCTV footage from Mukono Central Police Station as part of the investigation and identified five suspects.

The suspects include four juveniles and one adult male. They are currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish their alleged involvement in the reported offences.

Police said the operation remains ongoing and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Owoyesigyire commended members of the public for sharing information that can assist law enforcement agencies in identifying and responding to suspected criminal activity in communities.

Police, however, said investigations are still ongoing and the allegations against the suspects have not yet been established in court.
