KAMPALA — The High Court Civil Division has set July 7, 2026, as the date for delivering its ruling in a legal challenge filed by five suspended members of the Kampala Ssese Rotary Club.
The applicants — Nelson Turyatemba, Ronald Samuel Wanda, Gladys Edwards Namala, John Martin Sekwe, and Byamukama Robert — petitioned the court after their suspension was communicated through a February 14, 2026 letter signed by the secretary of the club’s disciplinary committee.
During submissions before the court, counsel for the applicants, Kakuru Tumusiime, argued that the disciplinary action was undertaken without affording his clients a fair hearing, contrary to the principles of natural justice.
He asked the court to nullify the suspensions and order the reinstatement of the five members, maintaining that the disciplinary process was procedurally flawed and unfair.
Lawyers representing the Kampala Ssese Rotary Club defended the disciplinary committee’s actions, contending that the suspensions were conducted in accordance with the club’s constitution and established procedures.
The case has drawn considerable attention among members of professional and social organisations, with many keenly awaiting the court’s interpretation of fairness, accountability, and due process within private associations.
The court is expected to deliver its ruling on July 7, 2026.
