KAMPALA — The Provincial Secretariat of the Church of Uganda has stepped into the viral controversy surrounding a physical scuffle between a clergyman and a parishioner in Abim District, assuring the public that administrative and pastoral steps are underway.
In an official statement released by the Church, leadership acknowledged viewing the circulating social media video capturing the altercation involving Rev. Canon Richard Ongom—a retired cleric currently serving on contract in the Diocese of North Karamoja—and an unidentified church member.
“We are concerned by the incident and wish to assure the Church and the general public that the matter is being followed up through the appropriate Church structures,” the statement read, adding that formal measures will be instituted once the exact circumstances of the clash are established.
The provincial leadership appealed for calm across the Diocese of North Karamoja and the broader church community, urging congregants to commit the delicate situation to prayer while church authorities manage the investigation.
