Celebrity boxing match: Shawa gives Macona one year to recover

Comedian and entertainer Shawa has given Sanyuka TV presenter Brian Macona one year to recover from injuries sustained in a road accident before they consider facing each other in a celebrity boxing match.

Shawa made the offer during an appearance on Sanyuka Weekender, where the two discussed the possibility of stepping into the ring.

He said he was willing to wait until Macona had recovered sufficiently, adding that he had no personal grudge against the presenter.

“I will give you milk when you ask for water. I will beat you, brother. The good thing is I don’t have any personal issue with you,” Shawa said.

Macona, also known as Macona Brain, revealed that he had discussed the possibility of fighting Shawa with the late producer Badru Kasirye before Kasirye died in a road accident in August.

Kasirye and his colleague Isaac Claude Ndamagye died in a crash on August 7, 2026, as they returned from a celebrity boxing event at Supremacy Lounge in Nakulabye, Kampala.

Macona was also travelling with them and sustained serious head injuries when their vehicle collided with another car along Entebbe Road near Namulanda. He spent time in intensive care before being discharged after weeks of treatment.

The event they had attended was held on the same night Shawa fought TikToker Chicken Chicken in a celebrity boxing contest.

Shawa has presented the proposed bout with Macona as a sporting contest rather than a personal feud. Sanyuka TV has also teased the possibility of a match through content comparing the two men’s heights.

However, no official date, venue or contract has been announced. The proposed fight would depend on Macona’s recovery and a formal agreement between the parties.

Celebrity boxing has gained visibility in Uganda’s entertainment industry, drawing comedians, musicians and social media personalities into the ring. The contests have also raised questions about participant safety and the handling of fight results.

Macona has gradually returned to public life as he continues recovering from his injuries. Whether the proposed match will proceed after Shawa’s one-year offer remains uncertain.
