MUKONO — More than 200 children from Bamutakudde Village and neighbouring communities in Mukono District gathered for a community party organised by their Local Council I chairman, Solomon Serwanjja, ahead of the reopening of schools for the third term.
The event, held during the school holiday, featured communal cooking and eating, dancing, football, swimming and theatrical performances by the children.
Serwanjja said the party was intended to give children an opportunity to interact and feel part of the wider community as they prepared to return to school.
“Over 200 children from Bamutakudde and neighbouring villages came together as they prepare to go back to school tomorrow,” Serwanjja said in a post on X.
He said the activities included cooking and eating together, dancing, football, swimming and children’s theatre.
“I organise this every holiday so every child feels they belong to this village,” he said.
Serwanjja, a journalist who was elected LC1 chairman of Bamutakudde Village in July 2026 by a one-vote margin, has also outlined a five-year community development plan focusing on access to clean water, youth skills development and support for local businesses.
The children’s party is part of a series of community activities he has organised since taking office, including village clean-up campaigns and initiatives aimed at mobilising residents around local development.
The latest gathering brought together children from Bamutakudde and neighbouring villages before the start of the third school term.
Serwanjja wished the children a successful school term, saying their participation in the event reflected the importance of creating a sense of community among residents.
