KAMPALA — Engineer Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga has officially assumed office as Kampala Lord Mayor following a swearing-in ceremony held at City Hall, marking the beginning of a new political administration for Uganda’s capital.
The ceremony, presided over by senior officials from the Kampala Capital City Authority, saw the formal handover of the Lord Mayor’s seal and instruments of authority, completing the official transfer of office.
The event attracted KCCA leaders, political figures, city administrators, and residents who gathered at City Hall to witness the transition in the capital’s top political leadership position.
Balimwezo’s inauguration formally ushers in a new five-year term from 2026 to 2031, succeeding former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who served for over a decade.
In his first remarks after taking office, Balimwezo pledged to prioritise key urban challenges affecting Kampala, including poor drainage systems, persistent flooding, traffic congestion, and deteriorating infrastructure.
“Kampala requires focused, practical and results-oriented leadership to address the daily challenges affecting residents and businesses,” he said shortly after the ceremony.
The new Lord Mayor also called for stronger coordination between political and technical leaders at City Hall to improve service delivery and modernise the city.
The swearing-in ceremony concluded under heavy security deployment as supporters gathered outside City Hall in celebration, welcoming what many described as a new chapter in Kampala’s leadership and governance.
