KAMPALA — Management of Afrigo Band has assured fans, clients and corporate partners that the band will continue operating and honour all existing bookings following the death of its founder and longtime bandleader, Moses Matovu, popularly known as Papa Moi.
Matovu died on September 24, 2026, after more than five decades at the helm of one of Uganda’s longest-running musical groups.
In a statement signed by Executive Director James Wasula, the band said it remains committed to its scheduled performances and will continue the musical journey established by Matovu.
“All existing bookings shall be fully honoured,” the management said, assuring clients that the band remains intact and will continue delivering the performances associated with Afrigo.
Management also said Matovu had built a strong foundation for the band during his more than 50 years of leadership, with values of discipline and professionalism that would continue to guide its work.
“Moses Matovu established a robust foundation over more than five decades,” the statement said, adding that the band would continue performing in honour of his legacy.
The management thanked the government, Uganda Police Force, fellow artists and members of the public for the support extended to the band and Matovu’s family following his death.
Afrigo Band also provided contacts for clients seeking to make bookings or follow up on existing engagements.

Matovu was one of Uganda’s most prominent saxophonists and played a central role in Afrigo Band’s development into a major institution in the country’s live-music scene.
