Museveni to jihadists: blow yourself up and go to heaven

“If suicide bombing enables one go to heaven, why do the leaders of these groups not take lead by example,” Museveni has said.

“The first to go should be the leader. They just send children,” the president said Saturday while addressing the nation.

According to him, those who use religion, drugs and alcohol to kill others are essentially cowards trying to create bravery artificially through manipulation.

“We have fought and defeated them in Somalia. To go to heaven, you must be admitted by God. You can’t take yourself there. I don’t know what God is thinking, but I don’t think he admits wrongdoers.”

He said the idea is to uproot these parasites from our society, and that is what we are going to do.

Museveni says if the terrorists can’t live amongst Ugandans, with what they eat (pork) or how they live, they should go and live with the Arabs. He urges Muslim clerics to advise the youth against joining terror cells because they will be pursued.

Museveni says at the right time, Ugandans will be surprised to learn about the criminality of the terror groups and the suicide bombers who are radicalised into blowing themselves up and killing innocent people so as to go to Jannah (heaven).

“We won’t tolerate this issue of bail. I am told that this Sheikh Abbas Kirevu was given amnesty. We won’t allow that. I want to assure Ugandans that they shouldn’t be frightened. We defeated ADF in 2007, but we didn’t have the capacity we have right now. Just continue with your wealth creation activities. We shall deal with these people.”

This is not a military conflict. It is more of an intelligence-led campaign, the president said, adding, “We just need to find out who and where. These terrorists’ weapon is hiding and spreading panic. Our task now is to find out where they are hiding, and the public can help us with this. I don’t eat rice, chapati, or bread. Am I going to wage war against you people who eat these things? I have no quarrel with you who eat these things. No one should victimize people because they eat a certain food.”

Museveni says terrorists used locally sourced materials including ammonium nitrate and police is now going to closely monitor shops selling fertilisers.

Government is resolved on uprooting all terror elements, that’s why they will not listen to anybody on the issue of bail.

Museveni said they are going to increase the capacity of surveillance cameras to sniff out explosives.

This capacity which is already deployed at individual buildings is now going to be rolled out massively in addition to digital vehicle monitoring.

He asked the public to be patient with the investigations into the twin bombings in Kampala.

“Wait for the court. You will hear the truth. I am a reader of intelligence briefs. Wait for the court – President Museveni The ADF overestimate themselves. They tried to kill Gen Katumba to show that they are here. Some of them say that Gen Katumba dared to construct roads in DR Congo, their territory.”

The president concluded by apologising for the four Ugandans who died in Kampala bombings.

“I am sorry for those who died. But, be assured. We are coming to end of this problem. We have better intelligence.”
