The United States had condemned in the strongest terms Tuesday’s terrorist attack in central Kampala.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those killed, and we wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” said the Nsambya based embassy.

“The United States’ support for the Ugandan people is unwavering as we work toward our shared goal of a secure, democratic, and prosperous Uganda.”

The bombs went off in Nakasero, near Parliament, the Central Police Station, and near several major hotels in downtown Kampala.

The embassy advised American citizens to avoid the area near Parliament in Nakasero, Kampala, monitor local media for updates, avoid crowds and keep a low profile.

“Notify friends and family of your safety.
Review your personal security plans. Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible. Carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current Ugandan visa.”

It added: “U.S. citizens who travel abroad should always have a contingency plan for emergency situations.”
