National Unity Platform coordinator, Moses Bigirwa, has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort Shs100m from the deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.
Joseph Sabiti, the spokesperson of the office of the deputy Speaker, shared a video showing Bigirwa’s arrest at Among’s home in Nakasero.
This followed an audio in which Bigirwa is heard asking Shs100m from Among.
He is a former Kamuli Municipality MP contestant.
“The truth is that let her break the bank so that we also buy milk at home. I am monitoring her but let her get us tools so we make things right,” Bigirwa was quoted in the audio.
He was told to pick the money from Among’s residence in Nakasero and arrested by parliamentary police.
“Moses Bigirwa was arrested next to the residence of the deputy Speaker Anita Among after he had negotiated a deal to stop spreading defamatory information on social media. He demanded that she breaks the bank,” Sabiti tweeted.
He was later handed over to the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence for further interrogation.
NUP President, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, had earlier claimed that Bigirwa was arrested along the Northern bypass together with his wife as they drove to his home.
