Army recruits 2,600 LDUs

Military training for the recently recruited Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel started yesterday at Olilim Military Training School in Katakwi district.

The Deputy Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division Brig Gen ES Okolong while briefing the two thousand six hundred (2600) recruits called for conscious discipline, sacrifice, perseverance, and patriotism, among other core values.

He also advised them to train hard so as to fight easily. “Avoid being careless and be creative throughout the training,” added Brig Gen Ekolong.

The Commandant of Olilim Military Training School Lt Col Eria Mugasa called for vigilance and cooperation between students and instructors for the success of the training.

UPDF Senior and Junior Officers, and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) attended the opening training session.

The training, to last six months, and aimed at boosting the overall security situation in the country, also includes four hundred forty-six (446) females.
