Members that have been elected in the top leadership of Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) have elected Hon Sarah Opendi as their chairperson.

Nabukenya Brenda was elected Vice Chairperson, Hon Nakazibwe Grania Hope as General Secretary and Hon Namukuta Brenda as Treasurer.

Hon Pamela Kamugo Friday handed over to the new leadership.

Opendi, the former state minister for health and for minerals, beat Olive Katwesigye when she scored 66 votes against Katwesigye’s 30 votes in an election held in Kampala.

She promised to promote the women’s agenda and to ensure that all gender-related Bills are passed into law.

She said bills like the Market Bill and Succession Bill will be supported since they come a long way in empowering women.
